Kids Help Phone is a free, anonymous and confidential phone and on-line professional counselling service for youth that provides non-judgmental support.

Anything goes, big or small concerns – from trouble with homework to dealing with loss and grief to thoughts of suicide, you can talk to Kids Help Phone about ANYTHING.

Immediate day or night counselling, to reach a Kids Help Phone professional counselor, kids, teens and young adults, from any community in Canada, can call or go online 24 hours a day, 365 day a year.

That means that no matter where you are calling from, professional counselors can connect you to a service right in your community, whether you need a place to stay for the night, a health clinic or a local counselor.

Mobile Crisis is for individuals or families who are in crisis. Typical issues addressed by Mobile Crisis include child welfare, emergency financial needs, mental health, counselling, substance abuse, problem gambling, and domestic violence. Crisis workers prioritize requests for service is based on urgency of the situation, or the possible level of risk.

HealthLine is a confidential, 24-hour health information and support telephone line. The professionals who work at HealthLine are experienced and specially trained to help you make decisions about your health care options. They can help you decide whether to treat your own symptoms, go to a clinic, see your primary health care provider, or access emergency medical care, if necessary. HealthLine is not for emergency situations. Call 911 if you are experiencing a medical emergency.

How does HealthLine work?
When you call HealthLine, you have the option to speak with a Registered Nurse or a mental health and addictions professional. If you choose to speak with a Registered Nurse, the nurse will assess your symptoms and provide you with the most appropriate health support or information. If you choose to speak to a mental health and addictions professional, you will be able to discuss your concerns in a safe, caring, and confidential manner with a Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Social Worker. They may help you with crisis counselling, strategies to help you manage your situation, or provide information about resources in your community. Services are offered in English, with translation available in over 100 languages. TTY access for the hearing impaired is available at 1-888-425-4444.

You can find health information and advice on the internet at Healthline Online. The website also offers interactive health tools and decision aids to help you make informed health decisions.

When to Call 911
Call 911 when there is an emergency situation that you can't control. These emergency situations have to do with your or someone else’s safety and may require a response from:

  • Police – when you or some else’s life is in danger or a crime is being committed
  • Medical personnel – when there is a medical emergency
  • Firefighters – when there is a fire emergency
  • Rescue personnel – when you or some else is in need of rescue
