Ordering time for supplies reduced 85 per cent

“Having a more structured way of rotating stock will greatly reduce the number of expired products we have. Removing all the expired supplies efficiently will greatly impact patient safety.” Lisa Schill Registered Nurse 5S (BTL)

Lisa Schill, RN, appreciates the changes made to supply ordering.
A February improvement event at the Balcarres Primary Health Care Centre has reduced the amount of time staff need to order supplies by 85 per cent (from 66 minutes to 10 minutes per week).
They’ve improved ordering practices so that they now know how much to order and how much is on hand, which has also reduced waste.
Ordering duties will be transferred from the registered nurse to the clinic assistant, providing the nurse with more than an hour of “found” time.
